Welcome to Advanced English A, a fun and engaging class designed for 5th and 6th graders! In this class, we will explore the basics of grammar, expand our vocabulary, and learn how to analyze literature. Our journey will also include reading and understanding poetry and working on a special project about "The Hero's Journey." We will have in-class reviews & quizzes, projects (creative and analysis), presentations, and homework to help us practice and improve. You will get to read stories spanning from mystery to comedy and learn how to write 5-paragraph essays to show your understanding and creativity. The class will move at a pace that matches how well everyone is doing with the materials. Since we have students from both 5th and 6th grades, we will consider different factors when checking progress. We want you to leave SchoolNova ready to excel in your future classes. Welcome to Advanced English B, a dynamic reading and writing class designed for 7th and 8th graders, and/or those who have completed Advanced English A. This class builds on what you’ve already learned, with a deeper focus on literary analysis and more advanced grammar. You’ll also get an introduction to research skills and media literacy to help you evaluate online resources and stories. In this class, you’ll engage in creative writing, deliver a presentation, and write two major essays (one literary analysis and one persuasive essay). We will read both fiction and non-fiction, exploring genres like short stories, poetry, non-fiction, mystery, and drama. The class will progress based on how well everyone is doing with the materials. Since we have students from different grades, we’ll consider different sets of factors when assessing progress. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition. We aim for you to excel and feel confident in your writing skills, ready to take on future assignments and personal writing projects with boldness and courage. Our classes are interactive, and participation is expected from everyone. Homework is mandatory and will be posted on the SchoolNova website.
