Alexandra Cartwright

About me

My name is Alex Cartwright and I am a third-year student at Champlain College, studying Digital Forensics, with concentrations in Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Programming. Evidently, my interests lie in computer science and technology, with the digital world expanding and becoming more complex day-by-day. I've been part of the IT field for over 8 years now, starting with Python and Java Programming, while I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Digital Forensics and Investigation to graduate next Spring.
In addition to being a university student, I am also a TA for a few Cybersecurity courses for San Diego State University, as well as the Project Manager of a Cybersecurity-Awareness program in Vermont.

Although cybersecurity and digital forensics are two new and ever-changing fields, that does not mean that they should be scary nor strange. In the world we live in, you come across cybersecurity more than you'd think -- everything from simple password management (yes, those annoying "Your password needs a letter, number, and punctuation" messages are important), to Wireless Connections (such as the internet, or the way that your computer talks to other computers), to news headlines discussing the latest breach or major hack -- and it is so fascinating to figure out hands-on what computers are capable of doing from the groundwork up. With my focus in Digital Forensics, we can also begin to investigate anything that happens online; how did data get breached; how did that hack happen; where did the hack come from; what does this malware do; can we track criminals from their digital footprints... the limits of Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics are endless, and I strive to get more students involved in these tech fields.

I've taught Introduction to Python and Introduction to Cybersecurity at SchoolNova this past summer and am looking forward to bringing Cybersecurity back to SchoolNova this winter!
