About me

Hello! My given name is Daria, but please, call me Dasha. This June I graduated from the Russian State University for the Humanities, where I studied linguistics. Languages have been my passion since I was five, in part because it was then when my family immigrated to the United States and I discovered that my native Russian was not the only language around. As I grew up, I became more and more interested. I studied French and Spanish, and becoming fluent in these languages has helped me tremendously. Later, in college, I learned Arabic, Dutch and Russian Sign Language. However, learning specific languages is only part of the fun — what I really love is linguistics, because it gives me the opportunity to genuinely understand — and thus, teach — the intricacies of grammar. As an avid and experienced language learner, I am well aware of the pitfalls and difficulties along the road. As a teacher, I use my learning experience to help maintain contact with my students and to make their studies fruitful and fun. I know that the basis of competence in any language is the knowledge of its grammar, and grammar will definitely be the focus of my classes. The myth that grammar is boring will be ruthlessly debunked. A portion of class time will be devoted to examining various media: this will allow the students to get a better understanding of the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world and to practice their skills on real-life language.
