Math Placement Test 2025

Who Should Take the Test:

  • New students are registering for a math course.

  • Students aiming to skip a math level.

  • Returning students who were not automatically promoted to the next math level by their previous year's instructor.

  • Returning students who haven't taken a math course in the past year or at all.

Math placement tests for the 2025-2026 school year will be available here after August 15.

How the Test Is Administered:

The test is take-home. Students should:

  1. Print out the test(s):

    •  Students in grades 2, 3, or 4 at their regular school should start with the test for levels 2, 3, or 4. They should aim to correctly answer at least 80% of the questions to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts. If the test is too challenging and unfamiliar, they should attempt the test at the level below. If it seems too easy, they can try the test for the level above. Remember to show your work.

    • Students in grades 5 to 10 in their regular school should begin with the test for levels 4 to 9 (one level below their regular grade). If the test proves too difficult and the material is unfamiliar, they should consider taking the test for the level below. If it is too easy, they can attempt the test for the level above. Again, it is important to show your work.

  2. Choose a quiet, comfortable location to take the test.
  3. Take the test when well-rested and hydrated, without using external aids like computers.
  4. Scan the signed test along with the full solutions. Ensure all pages are numbered and sign your FULL NAME on each page. The scan should be a good quality and easy to read. Remember to show your work!
  5. The solved and scanned test should uploaded by Wednesday, August 27, 11:59 pm.
  6. We will provide instructions on where to upload the tests or the email address to send the files.

Interview Expectations:

After grading the tests, some students (not all) will be invited for an interview via Zoom or Google Meet. The purpose of the interview is to assess their understanding and ability to explain their solutions. Interviews can range from 5 to 30 minutes. Our instructors are friendly and aim to place students in the class that best fits their needs.

Why a Placement Test?

The test ensures students are placed appropriately in our advanced math curriculum. SchoolNova's levels may not align with the student's grade in regular school. We prioritize understanding of essential topics over pure math ability.

About the Math Placement Test:

  • The test is not pass/fail.

  • It is not multiple-choice.

  • Results determine the student's placement based on their knowledge of essential topics, not overall math abilities.

Test Duration:

The test generally takes less than an hour, though there is no strict time limit.
