Description: Chemistry 0 introduces key concepts, starting with the study of matter, including pure substances, mixtures, elements, and compounds. Students learn the difference between physical processes and chemical reactions and explore types of reactions. Dalton’s atomic theory, atoms, molecules, and valence are introduced, followed by lessons on oxygen, combustion, oxides, hydrogen, water, solutions, solubility, acids, bases, and salts. Hands-on experiments include simple chemical reactions (e.g., vinegar and baking soda), burning substances to study combustion, and solubility experiments. In the second semester, students dive deeper into acids and bases, strong and weak types, soluble and insoluble salts, and qualitative analysis. The focus shifts to chemical elements, such as halogens, alkaline metals (lithium, sodium, potassium), alkaline earth metals (calcium, magnesium), copper, and noble metals. Lessons cover chemical compound composition, stoichiometry, atomic and molecular mass, and chemical periodicity. Fun experiments include neutralizing acids and bases to form salts, pH indicators, and many more.
