Description: In the middle-school robotics camp an engineering experience built around the LEGO Mindstorms Robots awaits your child. Let your child explore the boundless world of mechanical creation and design with LabView visual coding, and dive into the possibilities of the LEGO building system. You’ll get immersed in an environment that encourages creativity. School Nova middle-school robotics camp combines fun with the opportunity for 5-6th grade kids to build robot attachments while learning visual coding, and algorithms. The program follows a Carnegie Mellon robotics curriculum that allows the kids to learn from scratch how to program all the robot’s sensors. We also incorporate competitive challenges where kids task their robots with specific actions and learn competitive strategies. During each session we will have a small course of 20 min, after which the kids will be divided into groups, in which they will tackle a hands-on competitive task. To ensure every child gets all the needed attention in addition to the course coordinator, Dr. Anreea Dragut, students will be also supervised by three club mentors--Marc Nichitiu, Anne-Sarah Nichitiu and Raphael Popescu-- who are young, fun and members of the Long Island FTC championship winner team The SBS Bears 10738. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prerequisite: A Windows computer is preferable, a Mac computer will do for those in driving distance to Stony Brook. No Chromebooks however. If you are an underrepresented minority in STEM we can connect you with a foundation which can help you obtain a Windows computer for the duration of the course.
