The club will meet once a week and we will follow a Carnegie-Mellon EV3 Robotics Curriculum designed to teach online core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context. It contains a sequence of 10 projects organized around key robotics and programming concepts. The structure of the mini clubs will be as follows: - 30-45 min lecture and discussion on Zoom with all children. All children have to have the camera on. - a 45 min-1h of club challenges. Each club will be led by one of our high-schoolers FLL graduates: Daniel Han, Anne-Sarah Nichitiu, and Marc Nichitiu There is no real homework attached, instead we will post the theory done and lost the club challenges and some extra ones to try. We are very thankful for the support of the First Lego League of Long Island and of the FTC Team The Bears of The Stony Brook School. With the help of Mrs. Stephanie Stern, First Lego League coordinator for Long Island we acquired eight competition mats. A number of new robots and 8 more competition mats were bought with the funds raised by Anne-Sarah Nichitiu from FTC The Bears, The Stony Brook School’s upper school Robotics team. She donated the funds raised to participate in the now canceled FTC World Championships (FIRST Tech Challenge) 2020 to help promote girls and underrepresented minorities in FIRST Robotics. Safety Procedure: All the robots were packed on Friday 12th of June with the help of the mentors. The day on which the box was closed is written on the package. The deadline for picking up the robots is Tuesday 16 of June. Ideally we would like as many people to pick-up the robots earlier during this weekend. Given the global health challenges, we want to ensure enough quarantine time for the robots and the mats. While everyone involved in packing and distribution from the Lego League coordinator for Long Island to our mentors and myself is in good health, please use gloves and face masks to collect them and please be sure that you disinfect them before allowing the children to play with them. Extra Supplies needed: Some robots have a rechargeable battery while others are on batteries. Please ensure that you buy enough AA batteries especially if you child would like to play with the robot outside classes. Assist you child in replacing the batteries and reconnecting the cables on the EV3 brick ports afterwards. Black tape and or black sharpies, white paper and colored construction paper, scissors and regular tape.
