Bonjour! Je m'appelle Marleine Chiofalo. I am a French native. I received my baccalauréat (Lettres et Arts) in French Guiana, one of 5 Départements d'Outre-Mer (French overseas departments).
I have a Master of Arts in foreign languages (English & Portuguese) from the Bordeaux Montaigne University. During my college years, I tutored English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. I taught local groups after school and gave private classes to children ages 6 to 15.
I also spent an academic year in a British private high school. That is where I really discovered the magic of teaching, working with teenagers eager to learn and speak French. My year at Repton School leaves me plenty of fond memories.
Since arriving in the United States in 1999, I taught French and Spanish in different Suffolk county school districts through a private company. I joined School Nova in 2008 as one of the French teachers. I am part of the faculty at Holy Child Academy in Old Westbury and I enjoy teaching French to the whole school, kindergarten to 8th grade. I also teach Information Technology to kindergarten through 4th grade (teacher) and grades 6-8 (teacher's assistant). I am a member of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) and Long Island Language Teachers (LILT). I keep up to date with the NYS LOTE curriculum through workshops with Northeastern Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Language (NECFL) and the annual conference of the AATF.
It is fantastic to see people coming on Sunday to learn and I hope to communicate my love for la Langue de Molière to all, young and adults.
Bienvenue à SchoolNova at Stony Brook!
